The Macedonian Shepherd
The Macedonian Shepherd was a commission work and a sheer joy to create. "John" the Macedonian wanted a painting that would recreate his childhood home village - a painting that he could pass onto his children and grandchildren. John wanted to be shown as a shepherd with his dog.
Man of the MoMent
Sunsets are fun to create. The scene could be almost anywhere. The message could be almost anywhere: climb a hill or a mountain (metaphorically is okay) stop, take off your shoes and sit down where you can take in the best view. My version of: "Don't forget to stop and smell the roses".
Windows on a Time: Two
The second painting in my series of Windows on a Time. The image is based on an old building near the Bendigo Art Gallery, Victoria, Australia. I have endeavoured to show an earlier life beyond the ruined building as seen through the windows and doorways.
The painting represents the first of my more sophisicated genre paintings of people engaged in their daily lives. Certainly one of my best paintings and very popular as a print. Originally it was exhibited as a pair with Night Developments. Available as a print.
Les Toits de Paris
Inspired by the rooftops of Paris I added the evening light for effect. It worked and I was very satisfied with the end result. I could have sold the painting several times so must produce some more in this style. Again my love of the texture on buildings is featured. Available as a print.
The Secret Business of Men: Paintworks
Conceptually this is the matching pair to "The Secret Business of Men: The Pub Boys" though the paintings are different sizes. Both paintings depict some of the “salt of the earth” men in our lives. Both paintings allowed me to paint one of my favourite motifs- red bricks. Available as a print.
Before the Court
One of my paintings featuring barristers against the background of the Supreme Court, Victoria where I created characters associated with a court case. Other "barrister" paintings are: In the Name of the Law, Acquitted, Not Guilty, Balance of Justice. Available as a print.
All About the WaterMill
The second of a pair of paintings depicting water mills. The idea came from an old photo of mills I took while travelling in France in the 1980s. In this painting I tried to create a sense of a community of buildings grouped around the function of running a mill.
