“Taking Art to the People” on the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia

Here on the AnArt4Life we value Community and the coming together to celebrate the enjoyment and beauty of "all things art".
Over the nearly seven years we have been sending out "near daily" posts about art, those about community have been favourites amongst our subscribers and social media followers... none more popular than the series Rowdy and I ran earlier this year on the art community at Victor Harbor in South Australia.
The artists from the Victor Harbor Regional Gallery have been at it again when they decided a few weeks ago to give the locals Close Encounters of an Artistic Kind as the news clipping below advertises...

The event was held at the Victor Harbor Encounter Community Centre, Encounter Bay on the 20 April 2024 and from all accounts it was a great success. Before we open the doors on the art works which were on display and for sale, you might like to check out a little of the history of Victor Harbor by following the bookmark link below.

Community Art: Brief History of “Port Victor” now Victor Harbor, South Australia
Today Rowdy Wylie and Anne begin a series of posts to bring to you the township and the creative peoples of Victor Harbor -located on the Southern Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia.

The initiative of “Taking Art to the People” on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia came from local artist Victor Maloney and he was assisted by Geraldine Rosser and Jill Watson.

Initially Victor had the idea of taking Art to the local community and promoting local Artists and so Victor and Geraldine established numerous meetings with local stakeholders such as the Council, Businesses, Art groups and newspapers.

We forget how much work has to go into organising a community event and after several months the venue and date were set.

Many people came on board including local artists, stall owners, solo music artists, a ukulele group and also supported by CFS & the Sea Rescue Squadron.
