Johannes Vermeer (1632 - 1675) is probably the most well known Dutch painter, with many famous works such as Girl with a pearl earing (below). Born in Delft, The Netherlands, he was a Baroque Period painter who specialized in domestic interior scenes of middle-class life. You can read about his life and paintings here.
In December 2021, Anne and Andrew alerted us to the intrigue surrounding the forgeries of his paintings, which was also made into a movie called the Last Vermeer!
