Christmas is Coming and Card Making Commences
Rowdy belongs to the Victor Harbor Regional Gallery group of artists who are so industrious and inspirational across many fields. Rowdy and I are preparing a series on the history of this area of South Australia and how such a creative community of people came into being.
Today however is about making Christmas cards under the supervision of Flora Huang and her Friends of the Gallery (FOG) group. Geraldine Rosser and Wendy Carpenter assisted the FOG members with this year's Christmas Card making...
When Rowdy sent in these images to me he commented with: What “strikes” me as outstanding is that this photo is of the members all meeting and supporting one another!! Truly.... “Building Community”
FOG is run by Flora Huang and soon you will be seeing a post giving more details about the work she does to promote art in the Victor Harbor community.
Flora reported on the Christmas Card making session thus:
Dear FOG members,
A windy cold spring day, perfect weather for an indoor Christmas card-making event this morning. When six participants (FOG and Non-FOG members) turned up to the gallery, our gallery artists Geraldine Rosser and Wendy Carpenter had already sorted out their well-prepared abundant materials for card-making.
We don't mess around. Two artists started to facilitate straightaway a bit after 9:30. Two and half hours to make four hand-crafted Christmas cards can be an intense task. Plus, we were chatting along while making cards. What a beautiful community!...
Flora continued:
Ladies have plenty patience and creative ideas, and great in details. On top of two traditional elegant Christmas cards, we also created two unconventional cards with stylish personal touch. Mission accomplished after 2.5 hours, as we planned, Yeah!!!...
I know nowadays most of people don't bother to write a card or letter, but I'm sure if you write a card to a special one, he or she will be touched deeply, especially this card has been a hand-crafted one! To me, this is an ultimate gift, as it goes through so much effort with heart....
So I am guessing, nine of us in this morning's workshop were happy and contented. I am also wondering, who will be those lucky one to receive these special cards?:)
Warm regards,
Flora:)
A special thank you to Flora Huang for sharing this community activity with us and for reminding all of us how important it is to reach out to others in the way that best suits your interests and life style.
Community is a a very simple word we all use frequently. Please don't let its importance escape your thoughts.
