One of the Most Memorable Events in Human History
A new monument to the crew of the first moon landing will rise from the mission's launch site as the gift from an aptly-named financing company.
Rocket Mortgage by Quicken Loans has partnered with Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex to erect a bronze statue of Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. The monument, to be installed this summer, will be the focal point of a new garden outside the display of a Saturn V moon rocket at the Florida spaceport. "NASA's accomplishment of putting a man on the moon showed our country and the world that once seemingly 'impossible' barriers can be broken," said Jay Farner, CEO of Quicken Loans, in a statement. "Rocket Mortgage is proud to be a part of the 50th anniversary honoring these brave pioneers who journeyed to the great unknown and forever reshaped world history."
The 7-foot-tall (2.1-meter) statue, set atop a 4-foot-tall (1.2 meter) concrete base, is being created by sculptors George and Mark Lundeen of Lundeen Sculpture in Loveland, Colorado. The monument depicts Collins, Armstrong and Aldrin, each in their Apollo spacesuits, looking up to the sky. Collins and Armstrong are carrying their helmets, while Aldrin holds an American flag. Most of us will agree that we remember the day man first landed on the moon. But do you remember what you did the next day? What you thought of the events of the day before? Did you talk about the most remarkable achievment in the history of the world? Or did complacency about not only space exploration but many aspects of our lives set in immediately?
And most importantly- did any of us think about the three courageous men- Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins-who had made this remarkable journey. Or did we ever think about the hundreds of thousands of people who had worked for years and years to make space exploration possible?
One man certainly did think about the huge effort that went into putting man on the moon and his name is Neil Armstrong. Please watch this illuminating interview with the first man to step onto the Earth's Moon.

So let's take this opportunity to celebrate all the ordinary remarkable men and women in the world who have made a difference.
If you are having an argument with your loved ones about the exact date and time when man first landed on the moon I suggest you all go out and have a cup of coffee and forget about it. I do apologise however for causing the confusion by posting my blog about the moon landing on the 20th July which was in fact correct for our American and Canadian cousins. Here in Australia it was in fact the 21st July as it would have been in the UK. And of course yesterday was the 19th July in the USA/Canada etc so I got it all wrong!!!!
