Salvador Dali
During my visit to Bucharest in June 2024, I was lucky enough to be there for a Salvador Dali exhibition.
I became quite intrigued by Salvador Dali when I visited a fantastic exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria in 2009. He is quite a controversial character and it's difficult to comprehend his unusual thinking. Nevertheless he was a genius - photographer, painter, sculptor, designer of exquisite jewellery and even made movies.
Read his biography and some of his accomplishments on this link:
Dali is such a complex artist, as he admits himself in his quote:
The fact that I myself, at the moment of painting, do not understand my own pictures, does not mean that these pictures have no meaning; on the contrary, their meaning is so profound, complex, coherent, and involuntary that it escapes the most simple analysis of logical intuition.1
To learn more about the man and his art, I found 3 videos for you to watch depending on your level of interest:
- 1 min overview
- 3 minute view of his 50 most famous paintings.
- 15 minutes gaining a much deeper understanding of Dali and a detailed analysis of probably his most famous painting The Persistance of Memory.
As I mentioned in my post on Bucharest some of his work is on display in McLaren Vale at Darenburg Winery located on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia.
Their collection, which looks to be a permanent exhibition features 25 sculptures and graphics valued at approximately twenty million dollars. Dali is the most famous of all the Surrealist Artists, an iconic figure and a titan of Modern Art.
And by the way, also on display is surrealist Charles Billich who at age 88 is one of the most credentialed living artists in the World. Billich artworks are in the collections of the Vatican, The White house and the United Nations.
If you happen to live in South Australia or plan to visit, details are available on this link:
