After the gloomy skies in the Bernina Express we arrvied at Lake Como in the afternoon under sunny skies and 23 degrees!

Yet another playground of the rich and famous. We cruised the lake, hoping to spot George Clooney, but no luck!

Lake Como conveys notions of easy elegance and the Italian art of slow living, which we took advantage of, dining by the shore on delicious pasta, as one must always do when in Italy!

Officially called Lario, Italy’s third-biggest lake has been drawing visitors since the 18th century, when it was a popular stop for European nobles on their grand tours. It stepped into the spotlight as the backdrop for films including Ocean’s Twelve and Casino Royale.

The lake’s prestige dates to Roman times, when Julius Ceasar drained a swamp at its southwestern end, strategically located near Alpine passes, and funded the creation of a city known as Novum Comum.

It laid the foundation for Como, the main hub to this day and the reason why the lake is commonly known as Como.1

On our whistle stop tour of the European alpine regions, our time here was short but sweetl One of my girlfriends told me she had spent the summer by the shores of Lake Como with a rich aunt - now wouldn't that be a dream come true?

For us it was time to head for Turin -not far from Milan - one of the hidden gems of Italy, Ill share with you soon.
