Joan White

When I introduced you to the artists Regina Femrite and Susan Seddon-Boulet, you also saw a couple of paintings by Joan White. Joan is a very different kind of artist in that she doesn't paint on canvas or board, she paints on pieces of wood cut from trees. Joan White takes a piece of, for example, a cherry burl.

And creates a painting that harmonises with the wood, in this case, titled Catch of the Day.

The shape of the patterns present in the grain of the wood suggest the subject matter and composition as in Laura Lake Sunrise.
